Your Stories: Mariah

My name is Mariah. I am 28 years old. I was diagnosed with endometriosis on May 3rd 2018. I struggle with cycle and bm pain since I started my first cycle. Missing work and school monthly. As I got older I just thought "Man! I must be weak because everyone else doesn't go home for their pain, they just push through."

Little did I know that my symptoms were not natural at all. I've been with my OBGYN for 9 years to date. She was building a case each time we visited. She told me to stop taking so much ibuprofen and not to exceed the bottle and keep a log of my symptoms. When I did so I wrote down it all. BM pain(with hot flashes which cause me to pass out), heavy cramping, pain during intercourse, inflammation, sharp dull pain in my intestines and uterus when it wasnโ€™t my cycle.

When I told my doctor about the hot flashes and asked her if it could possible endometriosis (a friend brought it to me because she has PCOS)? My doctor said "Ok! When do you want to schedule your lap? I can not push for it because I only have a few symptoms and it's a pricey surgery and not necessary. But in order to be diagnosed, you must go under. So this must be your decision." This decision took me a few months to make because it was my first surgery and I was scared to find out. My husband was very thoughtful and never pressured me in either direction. So we made the decision to have surgery.

My doctor found my right ovary was cover and pulling it into my pelvic bone socket which was causing my hot flashes to increase because it would inflame during my cycle. She clear out as much as she can but my symptoms came back within 3-4 months. My name is Mariah, I was diagnosed when I was 27 lived with it since I was 14 and I have Stage 2 Endometriosis.
